Strategic Thinking for Your Future
Having the right people in the room is important. Strategically leveraging their expertise is imperative.
How did your last business or strategy planning meeting go? Great, fair, mediocre?
Your intentions were great. Some people were constructive in their thinking. Others offered little. Discussions got a bit out-of-focus. A few good ideas came forward. You came up with an approach near the end. You think everyone’s on the same page. You hope it will work.
Let’s hope you’re right.
“The essence of strategy is choosing what not to do.” – Michael Porter
Great strategic thinking comes from knowing how to nurture ideation and passions, challenge one another’s thinking respectfully, and create a collective vision and solutions. All of this, while managing the beautiful, messy, natural human dynamics in the room.
Imagine what your business outcomes and culture would be like if your strategic collaborations yielded…
Thoughtful dialogue about critical issues and taking your organization to the next level
Candid, respectful, and creative participation as a whole
Accurate understanding of strengths, challenges, and opportunities
Commitment to move forward with clarity and conviction
People knowing their expertise was used to shape the future of your organization
Strategies and solutions that competitively position your business or organization
What I Bring to Your Table:
Having facilitated strategic thinking and collaborative decision-making for more than 25 years, I’ve done it all. From strategic planning for multi-hundred-million dollar operations to value proposition design for growing businesses to shaping state-wide initiatives for millions of people, and everything in between.
One of my strengths is being able to bring a group of diverse minds together and enhance their capacity to build shared understanding, design creative strategies, and resolve complex problems in a sustainable way. I’ve facilitated strategic thinking for groups from 3 -200 people in corporate, government, and non-profit arenas.
My inclusive approaches leverage their collective wisdom while managing the relational dynamics to create meaningful and results-oriented engagements.

“Sharon guided our Pediatric Leadership group in our strategic planning to form a bold vision for pediatric care of nearly 800,000 patients and most importantly, the crucial steps to get there.
We had never done anything like this before. Sharon showed herself to be honest, straightforward, and funny, but with a firm, guiding hand to steer us in the correct direction during our process. The most important achievement by Sharon was her ability to produce concrete results in a group previously unable to do so.
Someone once compared our group to the old cliché regarding the herding of cats. Well, Sharon managed to herd the cats.”

How it works:
I don’t use cookie cutters. Every strategic thinking engagement is custom-designed to satisfy your unique needs.
Based on what your goals, timeframe, and the current state of your business, I will recommend an approach that best suits the needs of your organization. It could be strategic planning, value proposition design, business modeling, organizational redesign, talent pipeline development, or something else.
Here’s how we’ll collaborate:
1. A strategy engagement meeting will be set up to discuss your desired outcomes, the losses your business is experiencing, the benefits of achieving your desired outcome, and the risks of failure.
2. I will develop a short proposal with a strategic approach recommendation. From there, we will discuss the approach and whether or not you feel my recommendation will help your business.
3. We will co-create a game plan with the approaches and outcomes of each engagement. I’ll also develop any communication needed to build engagement with team members and stakeholders.
4. I’ll facilitate the strategic thinking engagement(s) and create any follow-up documentation.
5. We’ll have a debrief session, identifying the best next steps for success.
6. You and your team/stakeholders celebrate and implement your new path forward.
